24-7 Holy Week Prayers

The document below has been used on Sunday 28th March as the basis of  St Andrew's, West Kilburn's 24-7 prayer hour. This short order may help other churches during the week. Many thanks to Maggie Hindley for submitting this.

Janet Lees, the Vision4life co-ordinator writes:
One of the most memorable things to happen in our ministry was when Bob Warwicker and I took part in the prayer vigil for the first democratic elections in South Africa in 1994. You can find an account of this in the Praying Our Days Booklet page 29. When asked what we thought we were doing, were we ‘trying to change God’s mind’ about the elections, I remember Bob commenting at the time: ‘We were joining God’s team. God wanted us to be in that team and we wanted to be in it. The prayer vigil was our expression of commitment to being in that team’.

During Prayer Year everyone has an opportunity to recommit themselves to God’s team in prayer. This is particularly true of the 24/7 prayer event (a continuous ‘relay’ of prayer for 24 hours for seven days) when we hope that all Vision4Life churches will renew their commitment to being in God’s team through prayer.

We hope that all Vision4Life churches will join in the first hour of the event: from 12.00 noon to 13.00 on Sunday 28th March.

We also hope that Vision4life churches will sign up to at least one hour in the Holy Week this year.

Breaking News - THE WHOLE WEEK IS COVERED! Well done!!

The free slots are shown on the table below in white - the red slots are covered. Please email Heather Latimer at youth@urc.org.uk with your offers to cover. We want to cover all the vacant slots but also some churches will only be able to cover slots already covered. Of course we hope you will want to do more than one hour and maybe have a vigil yourself, during the day or overnight. Whatever you do you will be part of the bigger picture of the 24/7 prayer event.

You can download an Excel Workbook of all the churches who have currently signed up for the 24-7 Prayer event. (You need Microsoft Excel or equivalent to view this file). Please note that each day is on a separate tab. We hope to update this workbook and the table above periodically as more churches sign up.

Stuck for ideas?

This page has a short guide to how to do it or download below

A 24-7 Prayer Journal
One idea is to keep a Prayer Journal of your 24-7 event. This could simply be a notebook in church where people can write their comments, experiences etc.

There are other ideas on this website. There are some Easter Prayer Stations for example, which might be just the thing to get people started. There are also several other Lent and Easter suggestions here
Need help in the run up to 24/7 to enthuse people and get them ready? Why not use the Five meals for Lent as a way of focusing people on prayer and hospitality.

We would love to hear of your experiences of being a part of 24-7. Please send your feedback with stories and examples of what happened, along with perhaps comments from your 24-7 prayer journal, by emailing Janet Lees, the V4L Coordinator at admin@urc.org.uk
We hope you will join in 24/7 prayer. Please contact admin@urc.org.uk if you have any questions about Vision4Life Prayer Year.
