Eddie BoonThe Revd Eddie Boon reflects on how the Holy Habit of ‘serving’ forms a significant part of the ministry at Cornerstone United Reformed Church, Hythe.

‘At Cornerstone, we have an interconnected ministry team structure where the mission and life of the church is divided into eleven teams which people are challenged to be part of. This empowers everyone to participate in the ministry which the church offers, participating as faithful and confident disciples of Jesus.

Banner organ player sven read 623761 unsplashA group of amateur singers has been reminding elderly patients, who live with debilitating conditions, of happier times.

The Wilderspool Warblers, from St John’s United Reformed Church, Warrington, volunteer their time to visit care homes once a month, singing old-time and other well-known songs to residents.

Sadly, some of the residents have severe dementia which prevents them engaging in conversations but that does not prevent a familiar song from putting a smile on their faces.

Peter and Martin Hayward2The Revd Peter Stevenson, Minister of Crossway United Reformed Church, reflects on how a move into a purpose-built ‘home’ has breathed new life into the church in Elephant and Castle, London.

Since we moved into our new home earlier this year, we have grown considerably and there is a vibrant use of the building. Usage is up 70% and continues to grow.

St Davids unity film and chatThe second in a series of a short series of films exploring each theme featured in Andrew Roberts’ book, Holy Habits from a URC persepctive has been released.

Directed by Kevin Snyman, Mission Enabler for West Midlands Synod, the ‘Holy Habit of Fellowship’ is seen in action at St David's Uniting Church in Pontypridd, through its ‘film and chat’ afternoon and work with refugees, all with the aim of bringing people together.

Holy Habits is one of the key resources for Walking the Way: Living the life of Jesus today, the URC’s focus on lifelong Christian discipleship and mission.

coffeecakeWhen members of
West Kirby United Reformed Church, Wirral, decided to use their church foyer more intentionally, little did they realise the impact it would have.

‘Coffee, cake and Communion’ – an alternative to the Sunday morning service – was created for older members of the congregation and, according to the Revd Louise Franklin, minister of the church, has brought people back from the fringes.
