Debora Kayembe news bannerA human rights lawyer who began attending the United Reformed Church as a refugee has been named rector of Edinburgh University.

Debora Kayembe fled the Democratic Republic of the Congo in 2005 after a criminal investigation into war crimes led her to being persecuted as a lawyer.

When she first moved to the UK, she became a member of Central URC in Darwen, Lancashire, but since 2011 has lived in Scotland.

PCT James Maxwell news bannerThe centenary of the death of James Laidlaw Maxwell, regarded by many as the founder of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT) denomination, will be commemorated on 6 March.

The PCT and the United Reformed Church (URC) are close international partners. To mark the event, the PCT and the URC Taiwanese Fellowship in London are holding a thanksgiving service on 6 March at 11am via Zoom.
