Simon Peters, Walking the Way project manager spoke with participants in Southern Synod’s Lay Preaching Course to ask how the course had helped them in their own discipleship, as well as empower them to share their learning with others. Here are some video highlights from the conversation:
In addition, another participant, Katy, said that ‘Andy Twilley is so very encouraging and positive as a leader. Meeting and chatting with other students on the course was interesting, especially hearing about their journey on the walk of faith. I very much appreciated my time with my mentor too. As well as providing support with the studies our monthly meetings were an opportunity to discuss issues around church leadership and URC traditions.’
Fellow participant Carol also added, ‘People saw something in me and encouraged me to get involved with the course. It has given me greater confidence in my own faith and ability to serve, as well as a clear sense of where God is calling me next. It has also given me a hunger to continue learning, not for the sake of it, but so that I can help others to realise their full potential as well.’
Mark put it well in the video conversation, saying that, if you are asked to consider a similar opportunity ‘You will not regret it! You will always learn something new.’
