With 20 groups across the URC either engaging currently, completed a stream, or enquiring about starting Stepwise, confidence in the URC’s developing educational experience for people of all ages and backgrounds who seek to deepen their discipleship continues to grow from strength to strength, especially following the latest Task and Finish Group meeting at Westminster College, Cambridge.

The first stream, faith-filled life, aimed at embedding participants in the Stepwise ethos and way of working, as well as helping groups to open up with each other about what God, faith and discipleship mean to them as they prepare to journey together, has been available for groups to begin for some time now. Feedback from groups on their experience of this stream has helped to shape the content so that it can meet the needs of as many people as possible.

The second stream, faith-fuelled leadership, is currently being ‘road-tested’ and will be more widely available once this process is complete. If you, or a group you know, might be willing to be part of this road testing, please contact us to let us know.

With Stepwise being delivered in ways that allow its core ethos and form to be enjoyed most effectively in each synod, some people have been unable to start their Stepwise journey as quickly as they would have liked. The Stepwise team continues to work with each synod on finding ways of getting things going for those who want to start Stepwise now. There are all sorts of exciting ways of making Stepwise work in different contexts. One group, which finds it really hard to work separately, is bringing together people from across the generations to do all of their stepwise preparation, sessions and feedback work together. In these times of isolation and lockdown, there is also at least one group looking at doing Stepwise entirely online, which we look forward to sharing more news of in due course.
