Reformation 500 years: Anniversary 1517 to 2017

scarves reformationIn October 1517, according to legend, Martin Luther pinned his 95 theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg in an action that is seen as the starting point of the Reformation. Five hundred years have seen the blending of various strands of Reformation theology and the development of new features, but the heart of it remains and the Quincentenary of Luther’s unusual protest continues to be marked in many different ways:

  • In Germany, national celebrations took place earlier this year, with the Kirchentag in Berlin and Wittenberg at the end of May and the biennial gathering of the International Ecumenical Fellowship in July. A team from the United Reformed Church joined 145,000 people at the Kirchentag celebrations to celebrate the theme ‘You See Me’. Read more.
