Social justice will be a key topic at the United Reformed Church’s Youth Assembly themed ‘One Body: we’re all in this together’ to be held between 18-20 January 2019.
The event is open to children and young adults aged from Year 10/S3 to 25 years from across the URC and beyond.
It is described as ‘a weekend to focus on Jesus, to share in community with other young people, and to explore what it means to be church together’.
‘God’s people, in every age, have been called to agitate for justice,’ said Simeon Mitchell, the URC’s Secretary for Church and Society, a guest speaker at the event.
‘We’ll be exploring what issues of justice matter to young people today, be that the environment, social inequality, exclusion or refugees. We’ll also be thinking about how they can be change-makers in their communities.’
The event, which takes place at Whitemoor Lakes, Alrewas, Staffordshire hopes to bring together more than 100 young people from all aspects of church life, youth groups, Pilots, Brigades, Scouts, Guides.
The theme will be explored through worship, workshops, business sessions, Bible studies, and even a visit to a local food bank. Young people will also have an opportunity to respond in a range of creative ways, including craft, discussion, drama, theology, song writing and prayer.
‘I’m really looking forward to Youth Assembly,’ continued Simeon. ‘I think young people have a profound and prophetic role to play in speaking out about the kind of world that they want to see. We need to hear their voices, learn from their insights, and be challenged by their impatience for change.’
Earlybird tickets for the event are available until 11 November and cost £110 and £140 thereafter. Book your place here.
