news bannerYoung people at GreenbeltSix youth ambassadors have been recruited from across United Reformed Church synods to work as full members of the URC’s Greenbelt team and help raise the profile of the festival among the denomination’s youth.

Working with the URC’s children’s and youth work department, the youth ambassadors will be part of the URC team and camp at the event – which takes place over the August bank holiday weekend (24-27 August).

They will take shifts in the take-away tent, help run the Cake and Debate sessions, and work together to produce a vlog (video blog) of the event.

The youth ambassadors are: Amanda Veitch from East Midlands Synod; Reuben Watt from Southern Synod; Alison Greaves from Northern Synod; Joanna Harris from the National Synod of Wales; Beth Reason from Eastern Synod and Amy Weston from South Western Synod.

Alison spoke about how thrilled she is to be a youth ambassador.

‘I am so excited about “doing church” outside of the typical four walls,’ she said. ‘I can’t wait, not only because we are camping but because Greenbelt provides the opportunity for me to put my faith into action.’

Reuben, added: ‘I am really looking forward to helping the URC over the festival and seeing what exciting work the Church does for Greenbelt.’

Joanna said: ‘Being a youth ambassador means a lot to me because I like getting involved and playing a part in events such as Greenbelt. After looking at the set list there are so many things I’m looking forward to. I’m really looking forward to seeing what the URC tent will look like when it’s covered in flowers.’

Dr Sam Richards, Head of the URC’s children’s and youth Work department said the roles were created for young people to promote Greenbelt among young people in synods across the country and to experience a variety of ways that Christians come together.

She added: ‘Most importantly, we want them to have fun and an opportunity to experience all that Greenbelt has to offer.’
