massacio 840x460The story of the crucifixion is so appalling that it can be difficult for us to follow it to the end.

We try to manage what we are feeling and, by trying to manage it, we change it to something it isn’t.

Watching Christ Die

The defeatist watches Christ die.
After all, it was bound to happen.

The optimist watches Christ die.
After all, it is probably a flesh-wound.

The cynic watches Christ die.
After all, it means nothing.

The little child watches Christ die
and screams
and weeps
and prays for the impossible
which happens after all.
