The United Reformed Church House is hosting the exhibition of the paintings of renowned artist and URC minister, the Revd Elizabeth Gray-King, from 25 May – 27 November 2015. The exhibition is part of the CreateTalk initiative – which aims to connect churches with their communities using creative arts.
The exhibition, entitled, “Pentecost Trinity” displays a diverse range of religious paintings capturing a variety of theological themes and key events in the Christian religion.
The artist, the Revd Elizabeth Gray King, who is also coordinator of CreateTalk, said: “I call the exhibition ‘Pentecost Trinity’ because it fills that season in our liturgical year. I picked the pieces of art which enable us to consider the ‘large ideas’, and the ‘ordinary things’ through a faith-based lens, allowing us to dig deeper into matters of faith and letting us consider what we know of God in whole, God as Trinity.
“There are images of empire and exodus, knowledge and wonder, other and self – all of which open the door for further reflection, conversation and engagement.”
The exhibition is being put on as part of the CreateTalk project, a new model of mission that was initiated by the mission department of the URC and aims to connect communities with God through the creative arts.
The Church House management group hopes that the exhibit will spark dialogue between visitors and staff of Church House, welcoming ecumenical visitors, local church members and the local population. You can find out more about the exhibition and artist here.
