Park United Reformed Church in Reading ran the holiday club using the Supersleuths and Families on Faith Adventures material in August. Leader Carrie King told us how they had a fantastic start, even though the holiday club had to be cut short due to a volunteer testing positive for Covid.
On Monday we had 16 children and there was a great buzz about the place. Each day was planned to involve craft, singing, prayers, story, discussion, drama, games, reflection and food.
They really enjoyed the suitcase activity - though were a bit hesitant to take out the nappy! And the making of the Rugelach was a great success - and delicious too when they ate it for their afternoon snack.
We used the new drama in the afternoon which really helped them think beyond the Bible story. To finish the afternoon with the prayer rice activity and making prayer jars felt just right to help them reflect on the whole day.
The grant [from the URC] enabled us to provide all materials and food and drink and only have to charge £2 per child per day for the morning only and £3 per child per day for the whole day - which made the club accessible for those families with three children.
The children decided Ruth had shown the characteristics of love, loyalty, kindness, bravery and stubbornness, and prayed that God would help them develop the characteristics of Ruth and help them be a great disciple like Ruth.

The children and volunteers loved the day and were very excited about the rest of the week. Unfortunately, on the Monday evening one of the volunteers tested positive for COVID-19, so we had to close the club.
However, everything was prepared for the other three days, so it has all been packed up and put into storage to do at a future date.
