With help from a Children’s and Youth Work small grant, Foleshill Road URC in Coventry was able to support community wellbeing activities that promoted the importance of healthy eating and movement to local families.

Team leader, Mandy Brucculeri, explained that on 20 August they hosted a HAF (Holidays, activities and food) event. "We were asked by Foleshill Community Centre to take part as the local church and to include wellbeing activities if we could. The theme was 'Eat a Rainbow'.

"We had wellbeing activities which demonstrated eating healthy foods and moving to music. The children built a huge rainbow out of fruit and vegetables which was an amazing experience, one of our junior church young people assisted them with two church members.

"Afternoon tea was provided with healthy options of course, but as Foleshill Road are well know for their cakes we had to include them!

The grant enabled us to provide every child with a goodie bag to take home (this included tooth paste, tooth brush, healthy snacks and wellbeing info)

HAF 3All the families took the fruit and vegetables home from the rainbow as well as food left from the afternoon tea.

It was a wonderful day and we would like to thank the URC for for grant as well as church members for their donations and support."

Helen Needham from Foleshill Community Centre thanked the church for their contribution. "Thank you so much for everything you provided, the families had a great day, as usual what you came up with was very special and we can't thank you enough."

Parents were equally appreciative of what was on offer to them and their families: "Myself and my daughters have thoroughly enjoyed today. We have learned so much about sugar the girls really enjoyed the activities!" was one parent's feedback, while another said, "We had no idea what to expect today, this has been amazing! You have done so much and the children loved it!"
