Pilots display attracts new member through school meals project

PilotsFind out how a Pilots display at a church offering free school meals during the summer holiday attracted a new member to the Pilots company.

Anne Hatch is one of the leaders of a very active Pilots group and Synod Pilots Officer for North Western Synod. Her Pilots group has been exploring the story of John Williams, and how that led to the creation of Pilots 85 years ago.

The group used the Overseas Voyage to Fiji, materials produced for Pilots in 2020, for their display as that seemed a natural lead into the South Seas and the missionary work of John Williams and the London Missionary Society.

Anne told us: "The original Captain had some old stuff from our registration in 1957 - including ship halfpennies - up to the recent resources which we now have. The Pilots loved the two weeks we spent on it (split with a sports/games night in between) and produced a long banner which we incorporated into a display."

Anne went on to share a little about a new project for the church which is enabling them to support local children and to build relationships with them at the same time.

"We have been chosen to be a distribution centre for children who receive free school meals to collect a packed lunch every day. On the first day of that project, we recruited a new Pilot for when we return. His dad was a Pilot and, when he saw the display, he asked about it. And there is five weeks to go!!"
