Christ Church Chelmsford connect with local families through their Supersleuths holiday club

Christ Church, Chelmsford, ran a three day holiday club using the URC Supersleuths material. Leader Jonathan Fowler tells us a little about their holiday club and how it was a great way to connect with families in the local area.

The Holiday Club was a wonderful occasion and a great team effort. The programme provided in the Supersleuths booklet was really helpful and engaged the children with Jesus’ love for them.

We used the stories of Abraham and Sarah, Esther and Timothy. There were a variety of activities to do each day, which included craft and games. A really nice moment each day was when we would all gather together to pray at the end. The children had great fun and really enjoyed the three days.

There were lots of materials to purchase for the craft activities and that was where the £50 we received was extremely valuable. The craft really helped reinforce the message from the stories.

For example, on day two, the activity where each child had a person-shaped cut out to get them thinking about who they are as well as how we are all different and how God loves us all and wants us to do the same with each other really enforced the message of Esther about standing up for ourselves and each other in the right way.

The children really enjoyed making things and the food activities worked very well. There was a very encouraging email from a parent, part of which is below:

‘just wanted to take a minute to say how much my girls enjoyed the holiday club today….I can't emphasise enough how wonderful the staff/volunteers were….Really amazing and genuine team. Huge thanks for organising this, really grateful :)’

Doing this was a great way to connect with families in the local area, some of whom we had not met previously. We were able to provide them with information about other activities we do as a church also and hope to engage them more in the coming months.
