What we do
Church and Society staff support the Church to live out the social and political implications of the gospel. We work as part of the Joint Public Issues Team (JPIT), an ecumenical partnership involving the United Reformed Church, the Methodist Church, the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the Church of Scotland. We:
- help the Church to speak and act prophetically on key issues of justice and peace facing society - such as poverty, refugees and climate change
- provide guidance on what the URC thinks or has said about different public policy and ethical issues
- provide resources and campaigns that help people to make the links between faith, politics and social action, and respond appropriately
- encourage churches in their political engagement through initiatives like Meet Your MP
- support churches seeking to care for creation and reduce their carbon footprint
- publish a monthly email newsletter and regular social media updates
- organise the Young Activists Network, for 18-25s
- provide informed and inspiring input to events, conferences and synod meetings on social justice and political issues.
